Worland WY LPN with nursing home patientOnce you have decided on a rewarding career in the field of nursing, it’s important that you locate a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) college near Worland WY that will provide the proper training. If you reside in Texas or California, then you will be looking for a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) school instead. There is no distinction, apart from the names, between an LPN and an LVN. They both carry out the same job functions and work in healthcare facilities under the guidance of Registered Nurses (RN) or Doctors. But their duties do vary depending on the state they practice in, which we will address in the following section. When initiating their search for schools, many future nursing students begin with the ones that are the closest to their houses or that are the least costly. Even though cost and location are significant points to consider, they are not the only qualifications that you should base your selection on. Other variables, such as if the schools are accredited or have high pass rates on the licensing exam are extremely important also. There are even more questions that you should ask prospective schools before enrolling in a LPN or LVN training program that we will discuss later in this article. But to start with, let’s have a look at the function of an LPN and what is involved in the instruction and licensing process.

What is an LPN?

Worland WY LPN welcoming patientLicensed Practical Nurses have many different functions that they perform in the Worland WY medical facilities where they are employed. As their titles signify, they are mandated to be licensed in all states, including Wyoming. Even though they may be accountable for monitoring Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), they themselves usually work under the oversight of either an RN or a doctor. The healthcare facilities where they work are numerous and varied, such as hospitals, medical clinics, schools, and long-term care facilities. Anywhere that you can find patients seeking medical assistance is their domain. Every state not only controls their licensing, but also what functions an LPN can and can’t perform. So based on the state, their routine work activities might include:

    • Measuring vital signs
    • Administering medications
    • Starting IV drips
    • Observing patients
    • Taking blood or urine samples
    • Managing patient records
    • Supporting doctors or Registered nurses with procedures

Along with their occupational responsibilities being governed by each state, the health care facilities or other Worland WY healthcare providers where LPNs work can further limit their job duties within those parameters. Additionally, they can practice in various specialties of nursing, including long-term care, critical care, oncology and cardiology.

LPN Courses

Worland WY LPN holding babyThere are generally two scholastic credentials available that provide instruction to become an LPN near Worland WY. The one that may be finished in the shortest amount of time, generally about 1 year, is the certificate or diploma course. The second alternative is to obtain a Practical Nursing Associate Degree. These LPN programs are more comprehensive in nature than the diploma alternative and generally require 2 years to finish. The advantage of Associate Degrees, in addition to supplying a higher credential and more comprehensive training, are that they furnish more transferable credit toward a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. No matter the kind of credential you seek, it needs to be state approved and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or any other national accrediting organization. The NLNAC attests that the syllabus properly prepares students to become Practical Nurses, and that the majority of graduates pass the 50 state required NCLEX-PN licensing exam.
